The average day in the live of Peaks at the moment goes roughly as follows. Up at Cinco treinta (5:30); in a cab at the front door headed to Haunchaco to catch some olas before school. The olas are pretty consistent here, so after a couple of waves its back to the "res" to help make the kids lunch before departing for school at 8:30. At school I now have "diez ninas" under my wing. Omar, Darwin, Julisa, Thalia, Raquel, Marina, Melir, Luz, Mabel & Willy. We started out with basic writing and sounds. We have now moved onto recognition of words and spelling tests. Needless to say this has proved challenging for the professor at times. We also usually finish the lesson off with a game of pictionary, making paper aeroplanes, or drawing exercise, all of which I thoroughly enjoy. The kids are pretty poor and some have broken shoes, torn clothes etc. So we have tried to correct this where possible. However some day in the future I might ask for some extra help from you guys (like tiny monthly contributions), to try and make a real difference. The amounts I'm talking about are the cost of pint for us and school fees for a month for them. Perspective is a wonderful thing.
On Vientes (Fridays) we play a game of football which is always hilarious especially with the profesor and his two left feet. The evenings have seen Professor Peaks teaching two Ingless classes. Again there is always a slight chuckle from the class when my spelling is corrected, but I do hope I'm improving. So as you can tell the weeks have been pretty hectic like a full time job. If you not teaching you preparing for lessons. So in an effort to get all I set out to do, done, I have left the project and headed north in search of the holy grail of waves. It is always important before attempting such a challenge to make adequate preparation. I have decided to do this in Pacasmayo (the second longest left hand wave in the world).n.b. only if there is enough swell, which there wasn't. We have been neglecting the "Olas Dios" (wave gods) and will be having a ceremony to make amens next week.
